Angelo ‘Tony’ Lauricella, 80, of New Buffalo, MI, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Michigan City, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.
Tony was born on Nov. 2, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Anthony and Mary (DeGloria) Lauricella. He lived in Chicago till the age of eight when his family moved to Benton Harbor. Tony came to New Buffalo in 1961. He served his country while in the U.S. Navy; being stationed in OK, TN and VI, and being discharged in 1957 as a second class petty officer. Tony was an economics & social studies Jr. & Sr. High School teacher with the New Buffalo Public School system from 1961-1986. He also delivered the mail with the U.S Postal system part-time from 1965, and then full-time from 1986-1998. Tony and his partner-Robert Nystrom, also owned and operated the Impatient II Sports Shop from 1976-1986.
He was a former member of the New Buffalo Lions Club, loved to hunt and fish, and loved talking and being with his many friends and family.
Tony is survived by his wife Mary; his children Roger (Lin) Lauricella of Arcadia, CA and Cindy (Ralph) Briese of Hesperia, MI; four grandchildren-Camie Plantinga, Robyn Brinkman, ShaoLin Lauricella and Jason Lauricella; six great grandchildren-Maranda, Dannielle, John Brenden, Kailynn, Weston and Madison; and a brother-Anthony Richard Lauricella; and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents-Anthony and Mary, two brothers and a sister.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Weds., Dec. 11, 12 noon, at the Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00-12 noon on Weds., at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
