Arlene's Obituary

Arlene Ellen Pappas, 84, of New Buffalo, passed away at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph, MI on Thursday, February 27, 2014. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo.   Arlene was born in Muskegon, MI on August 21, 1929 to Wilbur and Katherine (Mattakat) Damerau. On February 22, 1952 in Gary, IN she married Clyde George Pappas. Arlene was an artist. Arlene, along with her husband were the former owner-operators of Calvin’s Grille, Rosie’s Restaurant and Pappas Real Estate Agency, all formerly located in New Buffalo; she also owned and operated the Victorian Gallery and Shoppe.   Arlene is survived by her husband of 62 years – Clyde; her daughter Judy (Jim Ratke) Denk of St. Joseph; grandsons Jason and Ryan Denk; and nieces Roxann Huebl of St. Joseph, MI and Karen White of Indianapolis, IN.   A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, March 3, 3:00 P.M., with Father Paul Martin officiating, at the Sommerfeld Chapel –  15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Visitation will precede the service from 2:00-3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
