Jean E. Kahovec, 82, of New Buffalo, passed away on Friday June 20, 2014 at St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo.
Jean was born on December 11, 1931 in Michigan City, IN to Frank and Bessie (Kasl) Vavra. On February 2, 1951 in New Buffalo at the First United Methodist Church she married Eugene John Kahovec; he preceded her in death on May 19, 1992. Jean was the former owner and operator of Flamingo House of Flowers (1973-1984). She was a member of Water’s Edge Methodist Church of New Buffalo; and also a honorary member of the New Buffalo Service League.
Jean is survived by her three sons – Matthew of Michigan City, IN, Jeffrey of Richmond, VA and Todd of New Buffalo, MI; two grandchildren – Kelly and Daniel; and a brother – Frank (Joyce) Vavra of Hobart, IN.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday – June 27, 1:00PM, at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, MI, with Rev. Brad Bartelmay officiating.
