Lloyd Murphy, 87, of Rolling Prairie, passed away Friday, August 29, 2014 at St. Anthony Hospice in Michigan City.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00 P.M. EST, Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., officiated by Pastor Damien Lake. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Friends may visit Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Ophelia Murphy. Lloyd was born June 18, 1927 in Corning, AR, to Charlie & Rosie (Lowder) Murphy. He married Ophelia Overstreet on May 11, 1945 in Bald Knob, AK. Lloyd retired from IBEW where he was employed as an electrician for over 30 years. He was a member of the Acme Masonic Lodge #83, New Buffalo American Legion Post 169 and Disabled American Veterans of Michigan City. Lloyd enjoyed working in his workshop making clay and wooden cars. He loved to tell little jokes to get a laugh from his family, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ophelia; children, Sandy Walden of Michigan City, Larry Murphy of Dawson Springs, KY, Diane (Bob) Johnson of New Buffalo, Marsha (Ted) Conklin of Michigan City, Vickie Clemons of Rolling Prairie, and Debbie (Gregg) Middleton of Medford, WI; 18 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
He is preceded by his parents; son, Bobby Murphy in 2009; grandson, Ryan Conklin in 2001; great nephew, Sgt. Kevin Moorehead in 2004 while serving his country in Iraq; his twin brother, Floyd; brothers, Ed, Gerald, Wesley, Harry, Arthur and George Murphy; sisters, Pearlie Mae Murphy and Dorothy Smith; and twin siblings, Ellie and Louie.
