Simon's Obituary

Simon J. “Wimpy” Phillips, 96, of New Buffalo, MI passed away in Union Pier, MI on Monday, August 25, 2014. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.   Wimpy was born Sept. 27, 1917 in Chicago to Simon and Kazimera (Micius) Phillips. He served his country during WWII while in the U.S. Army. On November 16, 1938 in Chicago he married Effie “Babe” Ringer; she preceded him in death on October 18, 2010. He owned and operated ‘Phillips Automotive Repair’ in Chicago. Wimpy also was an avid Ham Radio Operator.   He is survived by a son-Father Frank Phillips of Chicago, IL and a daughter-Christine Phillips of Grand Rapids, MI; two grandchildren-Terry (Carter) Vravis of New Buffalo, MI and Michael Phillips of Hamilton, MI; four great grandchildren-Jessica, Katrina, Tim and Jacob. Wimpy is preceded in death by his parents, wife-Effie “Babe”, son-Anthony, daughter-Julianna Aasgaard, three brothers and a sister.   A joint Celebration of Life service for “Wimpy and Babe” will be held on Thursday, Sept. 4, 11:00 AM, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Three Oaks, MI with Father Frank Phillips officiating.
