Rikiko Amano Farrar, 81, of New Buffalo, passed away, Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A Memorial Open House hosted by her family will be held Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 2:00 until 4:00 at 18430 W. Indiana Circle, New Buffalo including a Prayer Service at 3:00 P.M. Sunday. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 11 in Crystal Lake, IL with the time and place to be announced. Memorial Donations may be made to the Water’s Edge United Methodist Church Building Fund, 24 S. Whitaker St., New Buffalo, MI 49117. Rikiko was born October 10, 1932 in Sagamihara, Japan to Fujitaro & Hana (Yagi) Amano. On December 16, 1957 she married Roland Farrar in Yokohama, Japan. Rikiko devoted her life to her family-caring for her husband, sons & grandchildren as well as serving as bookkeeper for the family business. She was active in the Boy Scouts and received many awards, when her husband was Scoutmaster and the boys participated. Rikiko taught Japanese Culture in elementary school when her boys attended. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed knitting and crafts. Rikiko was instrumental with the genealogical research of the Slocum Family, a founding family at Island Lake, Illinois, and continued on with the genealogy of the Farrar Family.
Rikiko is survived by her husband Roland; four sons-Rod (Cecille) Farrar of Bolingbrook, IL, Russ (Jean) Farrar of Ringwood, IL, Rich Farrar of Lakemoor, IL, Rob (Cindie) Farrar of McHenry, IL; ten grandchildren-Tiffany (Pam) Farrar, Erick Farrar, Staci Farrar, Joshua (Marissa) Saaf-Carlson, Jordan Farrar, Whitney Farrar, Lyndsey Farrar, Ashley (Nick) Fieramosca, Jessica (Jordan) Baker, Zach (Fiancee Hannah) Farrar; five great-grandsons; and her brother Yasuo (Keiko) Amano of Japan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Kazue Yagi.
