Charlene Jean Swanson

Charlene (Bentley) Swanson, 67, formerly of New Buffalo now of Westville, IN, passed away at St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. Charlene was born on March 9, 1947 in Michigan City, IN to Dorcie ‘Zeb’ and Marie (Gross) Bentley. She lived in New Buffalo from 1965 till 1990 when she moved to Michigan City and then Westville. She worked at Cameo Enterprise in New Buffalo, Gerber’s in Three Oaks and at Michigan City High School. Charlene was an avid bingo player and enjoyed spending time at the casino. She is survived by three children – Sherry (Kurt) Krug of North Port, FL, Shawn (Carrie) Nallenweg of Michigan City, IN, and Steven (Jenine Lewis) Nallenweg of Three Oaks, MI; eight grandchildren – Rachel, Ryan, Jennifer, Riley(Dominick), Keke, Richard, Nancy and Katie; great granddaughter – Lilly; three brothers – John (Brenda) Bentley of Eaton, OH, Lee (Dorothy) Bentley of Westville, IN and Jack (Shirley) Bentley of Michigan City, IN; and a sister – Sally Buchmann of Tonto Basin, AZ; a niece – Sandra (James) Kriner; and a nephew – Wayne (Vicki) Doehrer. Charlene is preceded in death by her parents – Dorcie ‘Zeb’ and Marie, a son – Craig Nallenweg, and a sister – Nancy Kurz. A gathering with the family will take place on Friday, Sept. 12, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nallenweg Family.
