Ophelia Murphy

Ophelia Overstreet Murphy, 89, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 1, 2015 in Michigan City, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, MI.   Ophelia was born October 1, 1925, in Bald Knob, Arkansas, to Clifton & Ollie (Sheffer) Overstreet. She married Lloyd Murphy on May 11, 1945 in Bald Knob, Arkansas. Ophelia “Pete” was a loving homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Ophelia is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd of 69 years. Survived by her children, Sandy Walden of Michigan City, Larry Murphy of Dawson Springs, Kentucky, Diane (Bob) Johnson of New Buffalo, Marsha (Ted) Conklin of Michigan City, Vickie Clemons of Rolling Prairie, and Debbie (Gregg) Middleton of Medford, Wisconsin; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded by her parents; son, Bobby Murphy in 2009; grandson, Ryan Conklin in 2001; great nephew, Sgt. Kevin Moorehead in 2004 while serving his country in Iraq; brother Howard Overstreet, sisters, Lola Fisher, Opal Sterling & Zelda Guthrie. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, March 6, 12 noon (EST) at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI,  with Nate Loucks of State Street Community Church officiating.  Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo, MI. Visitation will be precede the service on Friday from 11:00am-12noon(EST) at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Murphy family in care of Vickie Clemons.
