John R. Magdzinski

John R. Magdzinski, 91, formerly of Michigan City, IN, now of Lakeside, MI, passed away at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman, MI, on Tues., Feb. 24, 2015. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, MI.   John was born in Michigan City, IN, on August 21, 1923 to John and Helen (Stabno) Magdzinski. He married Ruth Konvalinka on May 24, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in New Buffalo. John was the produce manager at the A&P in Michigan City for 16 years, and then managed the Bridgman A&P for 4 years. John then opened his insurance agency with the Metropolitan Insurance Company in Lakeside, MI, retiring in 1980 after over 20 years. John and Ruth loved to travel, and did so in about 42 states. They wintered in Naples, FL, for 15 years. He loved music and dancing, and was very fond of his beloved beach and Lake Michigan. He would often walk from Lakeside to New Buffalo.   John is survived by his wife of over 67 years – Ruth; his two children-Kathleen (Steven) Beldorth of Lakeside and Stephen Magdzinski of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren-Stephanie Ashcraft, Ion Beldorth, Christopher, Julia and Ted Magdzinski; and five great grandchildren- Jacob, Jaxon, Taylor, Max and Miles. He is preceded in death by his parents-John and Helen, and a brother-Roger.   A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sun., March 1, 2:00 PM, at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. Private burial will follow on Monday at Lakeside Cemetery in Lakeside, MI. Visitation is on Sat., Feb. 28, from 3:00-6:00 PM at Sommerfeld Chapel.
