John George Arvan, 84, of New Buffalo, passed away at St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, IN on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.
The family is receiving friends for a time of visitation on Sun., Feb. 15, at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, from 3:00 P.M. (EST) until 6:00 P.M. (EST). A celebration of life will be at 11:00 A.M. Feb. 16, at St. Paraskevi & Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in New Buffalo with Father Paul Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Memorials may be made to St. Paraskevi & Annunication Greek Orthodox Church in New Buffalo, MI. John was born in Karyae, Laconia, Greece on Aug. 20, 1930 to George Arvanitis and Constantina Kopsaftis Arvanitis. He married Pitsa Eliopoulos on Dec. 15, 1963 in Sparta, Greece. John was a restauranteur owning and operating J&J Restaurant for over 46 years. He enjoyed his annual trips to Greece, fishing, making home improvements and being an active member of the church.
John is survived by his wife-Pitsa Eliopoulos Arvan; daughters-Ellen (Chris) Dimitropoulos of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Tina (Jeff) Brooks of Grand Rapids, MI; sons-George Arvanitis of New Buffalo, MI and Nektarios (Athena) Arvanitis of Elmhurst, IL; grandchildren- Demi, Thalia, Collin, Cailey, Grace, John, Steven and Paige; sister-Toula (Thanasi) Ploumbithi of Greece and brother-Angelo Arvanitis of New Buffalo, MI. Preceding him in death are his parents-George and Constantina Arvanitis and brothers- Nikos, Panos and Hristos Arvanitis.
