James D. Bell

James D. Bell, 58, of New Buffalo, passed away in his home on Tues., April 28, 2015. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo.   James was born on July 29, 1956 in South Bend, IN to Norman and Gailya (Haynes) Bell. He was a 1975 graduate of New Buffalo High School. James worked at the former New Buffalo Concrete for 16 years, and now Ozinga’s Concrete for the past 19 years. On August 5, 2006, in Lakeside, MI,  he married Mary Helms. James was a motorcyclist enthusiast, going on many benefit rides and surprising Mary with rides of unknown destinations. He loved backyard barbecues, golfing, poker, and many friends. James was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion in New Buffalo Post #169.   He is survived by his wife Mary; son, Nathan Bell of Raleigh, NC; daughter, April (Jarell) Roberts of Idaho Springs, CO; grandchildren, Corey, Joriell and Starlynn; mother, Gailya Bell of New Buffalo; brothers, Danny (Cheryl) Bell and Phillip (Sue) Bell both of Michigan City, IN; and a sister, Norma Eldridge of New Buffalo. James is preceded in death by his father, Norman Bell.   A Celebration of Life service will take place on Sunday, May 3, 1:00 PM, at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. Visitation is on Sat., May 2, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
