John Calo

John Calo, Sr., 75, of New Buffalo, passed away at St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, IN on Sat., June 13, 2015. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, MI.   John was born on November 13, 1939 in Chicago, IL to John and Gladys (Moody) Calo. After graduation from High School he served his country while in the U.S. Army. John retired in 1993 from the Ford Motor Co., in Hegewisch, IL. On July 5, 1990 he married Joan Watling in Chicago, IL; she preceded him in death on May 21, 2006. John was also a school bus driver for the New Buffalo Area Public Schools; he also loved the game of chess, teaching and playing at the New Buffalo Public Library and the New Buffalo Elementary School.   John is survived by his children – JoAnn Calo of New Buffalo, MI, Cher (Joel) Bennett of Encino, CA, Dawn (Glen) Janiak of Crete, IL, Angela Howard of St. Charles, MO, Dale (Shirley) Ward of Bradenton, FL, Scott (Cheryl) Ward of Fort Knox, TN and John Calo, Jr. of Lakewood, OH; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents – John and Gladys, his wife – Joan, and a sister – Marian.   The Calo family will have a time of visitation for their father on Tues., June 16, from 4:00pm-7:00pm at the Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. The evening will conclude at 7:00pm with a time of sharing memories celebrating John’s life. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
