Ron Valkas

Ron Valkas, 83, of New Buffalo, MI passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Michigan City Hospital. A Celebration of Life Service will take place 3:30 P.M., Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, with Father Dan Hyman officiating. Friends may visit from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church. On September 13, 1952 he wed Jo Karaluk in Chicago, IL. Ron worked at Peoples Gas in Chicago as a Serviceman for 35 years before he retired. Ron was an avid golfer and boater. He was a member of the Michigan City Moose Lodge, the 76ers Golf Group and a former member of the Yacht Club. Ron was a very skilled construction worker building two homes for his family to live in over the years. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Jo ; son Dan (Judith) Valkas of Jamul, CA; daughter Karen Gesbeck of Beecher, IL; grandchildren Justin Valkas and Jenna Valkas of Jamul, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Eugene “Gene” Gesbeck.
