William ‘Bill’ Geisler, 79, of New Buffalo, passed away on Thurs., Jan. 28, 2016 at St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo.
Bill was born in Royalton Township, MI on July 23, 1936 to the late Milton and Martha (Reitz) Geisler. He married Barbara Jo Forrester on Oct. 5, 1963 in New Buffalo; she preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 2014. Bill was self-employed as a floor covering installer for 40 years, passing the business on to his sons upon retirement. He was formerly both Mayor and Councilman for the city of New Buffalo, and also Parks Superintendent. Bill was involved with New Buffalo Little League, New Buffalo Steel Headers, New Buffalo Rod & Gun Club, and St. Mary’s Festival. He was also an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing and hunting. Bill was most proud of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his two sons – Rusty (Jill) Geisler of New Buffalo and Scott (Rhonda) Geisler of Galien; his five grandchildren – Jordan, Mandy, Will, Miranda and Hunter; and a sister – Sue Geisler of Niles. Bill is also preceded in death by four brothers – Don, Tom, Jim and Milton “Sonny” Jr., and a sister – Anna Mae Fetke.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Sat., Feb. 6, 11:00 A.M., at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in New Buffalo, with Father Dan Hyman officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Visitation is on Friday, Feb. 5, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo.
