Bessie Rachel (Farley) Whitlock, 83, passed away Monday November 16, 2015 at her home in New Buffalo, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
Bessie was born March 9, 1932 in West Virginia, she married in 1945 the love of her life, the late Earl Wetzel Whitlock, who preceded her in death in 1995. They moved to Indiana where they made their home and had a family, eventually retiring to Michigan. Bessie loved gardening, crocheting, bird watching, politics, her Lord, and her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be deeply missed.
Bessie is survived by her loving children – daughter Virginia (Whitlock) Nelson of Florida, son Donald Whitlock and daughter-in-law Susan of Indiana, and daughter Patricia Renee (Whitlock) Smith and son-in-law Jeff of Michigan; grandchildren Debra Marks, Jennifer Angle, Scotty Whitlock, Kristin Shaner, Jacob Shaner, Jeremiah Shaner, Joshua Shaner and Jeffrey Smith, Jr.; eleven great grandchildren; a sister Ida Vance; and numerous dear nieces, nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters and her parents John and Etta Farley. Bessie will be remembered as a loving, caring, little woman with bright blue eyes that was cherished by all who knew her. Special thanks to Hospice At Home for their special attentions and care.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, Nov. 20, 11:00 am (EST), at the Bible Baptist Church in New Buffalo, MI with Pastor James Bouslog officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation is on Thurs. Nov. 19, from 4:00-8:00pm (EST) at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo.
