Donnie R Collins

Donnie R. Collins, 64, of New Buffalo, MI passed away in his home on Saturday, March 26, 2016. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel, New Buffalo, MI.   Donnie was born on Sept. 9, 1951 in Truman, AR to Charles and Alice (Axton) Collins. He was a graduate of New Buffalo High School in 1970. Donnie then served his country while in the U.S. Marines. On August 27, 1999 he married Linda Rae Schroeder. He most recently worked at the Blue Chip Casino retiring in the Valet department. Donnie enjoyed woodworking, drag racing, traveling, but most of all he loved his family – especially his grand and great grandchildren.   A service celebrating Donnie’s life will be held at the New Buffalo American Legion Post #169 – of which he was a member, on Saturday, April 2, 12 noon; followed by the Legion salute; and at 2:00 P.M. a lunch will be served in the American Legion Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Collins Family c/o Linda Collins. Friends wishing to leave the family a message of condolence may do so at www.sommerfeldchapel   Donnie is survived by his wife – Linda Collins; his mother – Alice Collins of Michigan City, IN; his step-children – Leslie (Greg) Davis of Bridgman, MI and Michael Schroeder of New Buffalo, MI; godson – Lucas Schroeder; grandchildren – Lindsay, Michael, Carlie and Paige; great grandchildren – Ivan, Astrid and Dylan; a brother – Gary (Mary) Collins of Three Oaks, MI; and sisters – Peggy Zillinger and Debbie (Don) Lewis both of Michigan City, IN. He is preceded in death by his father – Charles Collins and a brother-in-law – Robert East.
