Robert W. Rubenacker, 90, of Union Pier, passed away on Tuesday, December 06, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City, IN.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary of The Assumption, 28 W. Ash St., Three Oaks, MI, with Father Dan Doctor officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a Masonic Service at 6:30 P.M. at Sommerfeld Chapel & Cremation Services, 15 N. Robert was born on July 3, 1926 in Piopolis, IL to Anton & Caroline (Frey) Rubenacker. He joined the United States Navy on May 16, 1944 and proudly served our country during WWII. On November 4, 1948, Robert married the love of his life, Anna “Betty” Basinger, in Enfield, IL. For many years, Robert worked and retired from Local 150 as an Operating Engineer and worked for Superior Construction Company in Gary, IN. He was a past Master for the Masons of Three Oaks Lodge 239. Robert enjoyed gardening and yardwork as well as watching wildlife in his yard. He also loved traveling with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren. Robert was a very kind and loving husband and father.
Robert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anna “Betty”; children, Peggy (Woody) Dismuke of Valparasio, IN and Stan Rubenacker of New Buffalo; grandchildren, Jennifer (Todd) Lawrence of Orlando, FL and Angela (Sam) Fugate of Indianapolis, IN; great-granddaughter, Lucy Fugate; and siblings, Lee Rubenacker and Mel Rubenacker.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Bernice Smithpeters and Richard Rubenacker.
