Monika's Obituary

Monika Gudaitis, of New Buffalo, MI, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Woodland Terrace in Niles, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, MI.   Monika was born in Latvia on July 19, 1927 to Jonas and Veronika (Lipins) Novikovs. On Feb. 15, 1946 in Munich, Germany she married Joseph Gudaitis; he prceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1985. Monika is survived by four daughters – Nicole Haley of Chicago, IL, Donna (Andrew) Swider of Brookfield, IL, Birute “Betty” (Joseph) Biernacki of New Buffalo, MI, and Zibute “Rosie” (Gerald) Jagodzinski; nine grandchildren – Carissa Schiedemeyer, James Leonauskas, Brett Swider, Todd Swider, Erika Faifer, Jolie Yonker, Jacob Biernacki, Denise Perry, and Jason Jaogodzinski; and 11 great grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by a brother – Jakub Novikovs.   Monika was active and often volunteered her time as a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Chicago. She was a Lithuanian National Guard member in Chicago; member of the Daughters of Lithuania in Chicago; and a member of Saulius Lithuanian Organization in Chicago.   A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary of the Lake Church in New Buffalo, on Monday, December 26, 2016, 2:00 P.M., with Father Patrick Craig officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Visitation is at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI 49117 on Monday, December 26, from 12 P.M. until 1:30 P.M.
