Lois C. Rohder

Lois C. Rohder, 89, of Lakeside, MI passed away at her home on Thursday, January 12, 2017. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.   Lois was born March 8, 1927 in Michigan City, IN to the late Edward and Alice (Harper) Jenks. She grew up in New Buffalo on the ‘farm on the hill’ and graduated from New Buffalo High School in 1945. Lois and Bill loved to travel and meet many friends which lasted a lifetime. She married William Rohder on July 1, 1950 in Michigan City, IN; he preceded her in death on May 18, 2013. Most recently Lois could be found visiting the New Buffalo Library in search of the books she loved to read and the music she loved to listen to. Lois was a member of the River Valley Senior Center Board of Directors and the Hospitality Committee; and was also involved with the New Buffalo Public Library.   Lois is survived by her children – W. Thomas Rohder of Lakeside, MI, Timothy (Kathy Mazurek) Rohder of Hillsborough, NC and Teresa Peterson of Sawyer, MI; a sister – Alice Stranad of New Buffalo, MI; and several beloved nephews and nieces. She is also preceded in death by a sister – Catherine Portinga.   A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 3:00P.M. at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. Visitation will precede the service from 1:00-3:00P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the River Valley Senior Center, or the New Buffalo Public Library or to the South West Michigan Humane Society.
