Wilma Belle Helbig

Wilma Belle Helbig, 80, of New Buffalo, MI passed away at St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, IN on Sunday, February 12, 2017. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, MI. As per Wilma’s wishes there are no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Buffalo Public Library. Friends wishing to leave the family a message of condolence may do so at www.sommerfeldchapel.com Wilma was born on July 9, 1936 in Waterloo, Iowa to the late John and Mary (Cady) Helbig. She was a 1954 graduate of New Buffalo High School. Wilma worked at Dage in Michigan City until her retirement in 1974. She then worked at New Buffalo Schools; first in the cafeteria in the grade school and then as a bus driver until her second retirement in 2000. Wilma loved bingo and her cats, and was a voracious reader and puzzle worker. Wilma is survived by her sister – Loretta Young of New Buffalo; a nephew John Helbig III; and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents – John and Mary Helbig, her brother and sister-in-law John Jr. and Judy (West) as well as their daughter Karen.
