Barbara's Obituary

Barbara H. Little (nee Harrison) was born April 25, 1917 to Sumner T. Harrison and Minnie Lee Reese in Chicago, IL. Barbara was the 7th of 9 children born to this union. Barbara married Nathan Little and the couple bore three children: Judith Georgiana Brownlee (Edison), Ronald Stephen Little (LaVern), and Renee Louise Little. All of her children preceded her in death. Barbara was a devout Catholic and graduate of St. Elizabeth’s High School. She spent her career as a homemaker and finally a clerk at Chicago’s City Hall. A lifelong Chicago resident, she and Nathan purchased a second home in Union Pier in the early 1960’s intended as a place for their family to escape from the city.  She spent her summers at “The Cottage” relaxing and enjoying the coveted views of Lake Michigan. She was a beloved grandmother to Todd Brownlee, Tyla Brownlee (deceased), Roni Jackson (Doug), Jason Little (Andrea), Rhea Brown and Stephen Little. She earned the title “Gi Gi” with the birth of her great grandchildren Byron, Frederick “DJ”, Noah, Ryan, Kelsey and Solomon. Barbara was a vibrant, classy, and gracious lady. She enjoyed taking care of her family and hosted Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinners faithfully. Most dinners featured her famously delicious lemon meringue pie and perfectly cut sweet potatoes. Big on etiquette and protocol, you were sure to enjoy an always on-time dinner and personal seating assignments written in perfect penmanship. She was a whiz with budgets and finance, which gave her a leg up in Bridge games, her treasured social activity. Barbara spent her final years at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman, Michigan where she passed away on March 21, 2017, 34 days shy of her 100th birthday. She leaves family and friends to mourn her loss and celebrate her life. May she happily reunite with her husband, children, siblings, family and friends in heaven.
