Roy William Zeder Jr., 82, of Bridgman, Michigan passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Bremen, IN.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday March 31, 2017 at Sommerfeld Chapel& Cremation Service, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo with Pastor Tom Bird officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Friends may visit from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the funeral home. Roy was born March 25, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Roy & Dorothy (Dorrance) Zeder Sr. He graduated from Morgan Park High School in IL. He then served his country in the United States Army from November 16, 1954 until October 30, 1956. On October 11, 1958, he married Katherine “Kim” Flint in Palos Heights, IL. Roy worked for the Palos Heights Police Department for 18 years serving as a Patrolman and then was promoted to Detective-Sergeant. He also served on the Worth Police Department. During this time, Roy also began his career as an Elevator Mechanic and then Foreman. He worked for 45 years in the Elevator Industry. Beginning with Otis Elevator, Barnard Elevator, Mid-American Elevator, Chicago Housing Authority and then retiring with Long Elevator in 1998. Roy was an Eagle Scout, Member of the Southwest Suburban FOP Lodge 3 in Illinois. He was an avid boater and became Commodore for the Dolton Yacht Club from 1971 until 1972. Upon moving to Michigan, he served as Commodore (a couple of times) for the New Buffalo Yacht Club. He was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Bears Fan. Loved his John Deere and any dog that might come his way! Roy loved Walt Disney, and in 1971 he and his family were one of the first families to visit Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.
Roy is survived by his wife Katherine “Kim” Zeder of Bridgman, MI; daughters Kimberly (Phillip) Naumann of Sawyer, MI and Beth (Dennis) Lyle of Lakeside, MI; grandchildren Brandee (Michael) DeGrado of Palos Hills, IL and Zachary Naumann of Kalamazoo, MI; and by a sister and a brother. Roy was preceded in death by his parents.
