L. John Sayne, 61, of New Buffalo, MI, passed away in his home surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, May 28, 2017. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
John was born on Nov. 5, 1955 in Niles, MI to the late Louis and Gloria (Samson) Sayne. He graduated from New Buffalo High School in 1975. He then served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1975-1979. John served on the New Buffalo City Fire Dept. for many years. Most recently his employment was with the city of New Buffalo – first in 1997 at the water plant, then transferring to the Street Dept. in 1999-2015 as a working Street Supervisor in charge of maintaining and repairs of streets, storm drains, sewer, equipment and building repair. John loved to ride his Harley and visiting with friends. He always helped friends with home maintenance, worked on vehicles or anything else they needed. John somehow knew when it was dinner-time and was always a welcome guest.
John is survived by his sister – Pamela Sayne of Minden, Ontario, Canada; as well as many friends.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on Monday, June 5, 12 noon, at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. Visitation precedes the service from 11am until 12 noon. As per his wishes, he has been cremated and his final resting place will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Friends wishing to leave the family a message of condolence may do so at
