Simone's Obituary

“Praise the Lord” were the most often spoken works from this amazing woman. Simone Saltsman on Thursday April 12th at 9:21 in the morning made her trip home to eternal Love & Peace. She is survived by her beloved granddaughters Tracy & Michele, 5 other grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. Born in Oaklawn Illinois on October 28th, 1923 she had 1 son who still resides in Winfield Illinois. After 31 years at Western Electric, which later became AT&T, as a switchboard operator, she retired and with her husband Bob moved from Cicero Illinois to Union Pier.   Her granddaughter Tracy, who with her sister Michele spent all their summers with Grandma in Michigan, moved from Wisconsin to live with her full time in 1985.  In 2005 Grandma moved in with Tracy and her husband Jim and Bob went into a nursing home to be better cared for until he passed in 2008. Grandma moved two more times with Jim and Tracy, always having her own attached guest house so Tracy could care for her. She passed with Tracy by her side in her sleep the way we prayed she would go. She didn’t want a service or any special attention when she passed, always insisting there was nothing special about her, but those who were blessed enough to meet her even once new otherwise She was known as Grandma Simone to not only all her family and loved ones, but to all the local kids that frequented her Union Pier home over the 30 plus years that she lived there. She knew nothing but positivity, blessings, and love. She was a very familiar face up and down Union Pier road and throughout the area insisting everyone call her Grandma. Their house was the communal place that all the local kids gathered with Tracy & Michele to eat, laugh and whether they wanted it or not, get a casual sermon of some degree from Grandma because everyone needs to be saved. She did everything for everyone, never asking for anything for herself, but always asking for only one thing from every life she touched.” Accept Jesus into your heart and your life.” She did just that every minute of every day and touched so many during the time God lent her to us. Even though 94 years is a long time on this earth, it could never be enough for her closest family members who ache for the sound of her laugh now that he has asked for her return. There was no one else like her, there never will be again, and although she is continuing to do God’s work with him now, she will forever be the largest part of so many of our lives. Sweet sleep Grandma Simone.
