Richard's Obituary

Richard John Linzing, 82, of New Buffalo, passed away at Rittenhouse Villages in Michigan City on Friday, August 3, 2018. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. Richard was born on July 15, 1936 in Chicago, IL to the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Linzing. He served his country while in the U.S. Army. On October 11, 1969 in Chicago he married Irma Siebholz; she preceded him in death on June 7, 2016. Richard attended Goudy Grammer School, Senn High School, Wright Jr. College. He was a draftsman his whole career working at various firms in Chicago such as Zenith, Republic Flow Meters, Wells Gardner & Northern Electric Co. Richard served in the U.S. Army in 1959-1962 at the 97th General Hospital in Frankfort Germany. He met and married his ‘Schatzel’ in October 1969 and spent 47 years together before she was stricken with Alzheimer’s in 2016. They relocated to New Buffalo in 1988 where he worked at Pokorney’s Hardware Store, Songer Tech Service’s, the Anderson Company, Weil McLain and Dage MTI in Michigan City. Richard was a past Master Mason and 45 year member of Paul Revere Masonic Lodge #998 in Illinois and a plural member in Three Oaks Lodge #239, as well as York Rite Bodies in the Chicago area. Also a 25 year member of D.A.N.K. in Benton Harbor; a 35 year member of the German American Singers of Chicago; a member of St. Luke United Lutheran Church in Michigan City; a former President of ‘The Travel Log’ in Michigan City; and a member of the Moose Lodge in Michigan City. Richard is survived by a sister – Ruth Brusie of Simi Valley CA and a brother – Robert Linzing of BeeBee, Arkansas; as well as many friends and church family. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sat., Aug. 18, 11:00am(CST) at St. Luke United Lutheran Church in Michigan City, IN with Pastor Ruth A. Popkin officiating.
