Richard Marbeiter

Richard Burton Marbeiter, 55, of Buchanan, died October 23, 2008. He was born February 22, 1953 to Kalvin L. and Bonnie (Mills) Marbeiter in Benton Harbor, MI. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps and served from 1972-1974. He went on to receive a degree in Agronomy from Michigan State University. In 1983 he began his business,”Dr. Turf Grass” which he operated until the time of his death. Ric was a member of the American Legion Post #51 in Buchanan and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially turtle trapping. Surviving is a son, Jaime B. Marbeiter, of Berrien Springs, MI; a sister, Deborah A. Sekan of Elkhart, IN; brothers, Michael E. Marbeiter of Canmore, Alberta, Canada, Ronald L. Marbeiter of Dowagiac, MI and Timothy A. Marbeiter of Albuquerque, NM; step-brother, Richard Olsen of Niles, MI, Tom Olsen of TX, Bill Olsen of NC; step-sister, Sandy Olsen of Detroit, MI and former wife, Marcia Rifenberg of Berrien Springs. Ric was preceded in death by his father, Kalvin Marbeiter; mother, Bonnie Olsen; step-father, Floyd Olsen and step-brother, Floyd Olsen, Jr. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Swem Funeral Home, Buchanan. Pastor Rob McPherson of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Committal of cremated remains will follow in the Veteran’s Circle of Oak Ridge Cemetery. Military rites will be given by the American Legion Post #51. Visitation will be Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm also at the funeral home.
