Ronald Elmer Stone, 74, of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Buchanan, MI died Saturday, August 28, 2010 at his home after an illness. He was born December 20, 1935 in Chicago, IL to the late Elmer and Margaret (Mortimer) Stone. On October 27, 1956, in Chicago, he married Mary Zerial. Surviving is his wife, Mary Stone of Valparaiso, IN; children, John (Vicky) Stone of Blue Island, IL, Carol (John) Mondschein of Buchanan, David (Jackie) Stone of Lansing, IL, Sherry (Dave) Zubeck of Valparaiso, IN, Bill (Marcie) Stone of Chesterton, IN and Ronald “Red†(Rachel) Stone of Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren, Karla, Marcela, Javier, John, Jermaine, Jonathon, Taylor, Courtney, Brianna, Jake, Zack, Stone, Paris, Reese, Kayla, Chelsey, Shelby, Madison, Alexis, Ronnie and Elle; brothers, Mort Stone of Chicago, IL and Robert (Pam) Stone of Geneva, IL. He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Kubas. Ron worked for the Ironworker's Local #1, Chicago, IL for 42 years first as an ironworker and then as an administrator for the Pension and Health and Welfare Fund. He raised his family in Buchanan, Michigan while commuting back and forth to Chicago daily during the work week. He was a simple, hardworking husband and father and lived his life through his family. Even after moving to Valparaiso, IN to be closer to his family, he remained, as always, a dedicated Buchanan Bucks fan and supporter. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 4-9pm EDT (3-8pm CDT) at the Swem Chapel, Buchanan. The Funeral Service will be Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 12:00 pm EDT, (11am CDT) also at the Swem Chapel. Fr. Joe Gray of St. Anthony Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Buchanan Athletic Boosters, P.O. Box 143, Buchanan, MI 49107.
