Edwin John Kay

Edwin John Kay, 71, of Buchanan, Michigan died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 9:15 am at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. He was born to the late John Randolph and Grace Rosiland (Cada) Kay on September 7, 1939 in Garden River, Ontario, Canada. On December 13, 1958 he married Marilyn Quick at the Church of Christ, Buchanan. Surviving is his wife, Marilyn Kay; children, Karen S. (Thomas) Kay-Peters of Traverse City, MI, Bradley K. (Katrina) Kay of Niles, Martin W. Kay of South Bend, IN, Patricia G. Kay of Marysville, WA, Amy A. (Robert) Mitchell of Dowagiac, MI and Daniel R. Kay of Lansing, MI; siblings, Lorne (Kathy) Kay of Buchanan, Dove (Dick) Woodrick of Galien, MI and Leona Christine Spencer of Sault Ste Marie, MI; grandchildren, Martin W. Kay Jr., Alex M. Kay-Anthony and Briana Nicole Mitchell and many loving step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Hughes. Edwin belonged to the Anishnabe (Ottawa Chippewa) tribe. He was a Journeyman Machine Repairman working for Clark Equipment Company in Buchanan before retiring from AM General in Mishawaka. He was active in the Union and served as a steward. Edwin served for a time on the Buchanan Township Volunteer Fire Department as well as Manager/Coach for the Thompson Supermarket slow pitch softball team, which became the Class C State Champs. He was a proud friend of Bill W. for over 18 years, while being a strong support and counselor and helped to guide many people in their times of difficulties. A graveside service will be Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 12:00 pm at Oak Ridge Cemetery (South West Corner). Pastor Rich Watson and Thomas Peters will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lung Center at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.
