Victor C. Shafer

Victor C. Shafer, 76, of Sodus, formerly of Buchanan, MI died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 5:25 am at Lakeland Health Care in St. Joseph, MI of natural causes. He was born June 17, 1934 in Baroda, MI to the late George Clifford and Helen M. (Nightlinger) Shafer. On June 25, 1960, in Buchanan, he married Donna J. Korn who preceded him in death on May 13, 1998. On April 30, 2005, in Sodus, he married Delia L. Canfield Huebner, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Shafer of Niles, MI; sons, Alan (Janine) Shafer of Rio Rancho, NM and Scott (Alisa) Shafer of Niles; stepchildren, Gerri Klink of Niles, Pamela (Randy) Hushower of Niles, MI, Ronda (William) Layden of Niles, Valarie (Dan) Stacey of Berrien Springs, MI and Leonard Huebner of Niles; sisters, Sally Ann Dehring of Buchanan and Marilyn (Victor) Finch of Crystal, MI; two grandchildren, twelve stepgranddchildren and 3 great stepgrandchildren. Victor served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for AEP and retired as a dispatcher after 42 years. He had a love for John Deere tractors and was a member of the Michiana Two Cylinder Club as well as a Boy Scout Troop 541 member and committee member for over 50 years. The funeral service will be Friday, November 19, 2010 at 11am at the Swem Chapel, Buchanan. Pastor Jim Dibbet will officiate. Burial will follow at Portage Prairie Cemetery in Niles. Military Rites will be given by the American Legion Post #51 Buchanan. Visitation will be Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 4-8pm also at the Swem Chapel.
