Arden's Obituary

Arden G. Reiter age 82 of Buchanan died Tuesday, July 17, in his home. He was born November 23, 1929, in Will County, Illinois, to the late Arden C. and Blanche Reiter. On June 13, 1959, in Buchanan he married Carolyn Fishe,r who survives along with daughters Michele (George) Dreitzler of Niles, and Rebecca Reiter of Buchanan and sons Arden (Tracy) Reiter, Buchanan, and Daniel (Niki) Reiter of Niles. Arden is also survived by sisters Blanche Bolton of Yellville, AR, Beatrice McGovern, Naperville, IL, and Jane Strickland of Lockport, IL, and brothers Fred Reiter, Lode, IL, William Reiter, Salem, IL, and Orville Reiter Lockport, IL. Arden also leaves behind grandchildren Derek (Sandy) Dreitzler, Emily Dreitzler, Andrew Hearington, Heather Reiter, Arden D. Reiter, Katie Ailes, Natalie Ailes, and Maddie Reiter and great grandson Cyler Dreitzler.Arden retired from Conrail in 1998 where he had worked as a railroad engineer for 48 years. He had served in the Navy and the Army during the Korean War. He loved his home and his family and could often be found tilling and working the land on his tractor for the gardens he and Carolyn kept, working crossword puzzles in his favorite chair at the dining room table, and, in later years, in the constant company of his beloved dog Buster, who rarely left his side. Private family services will be held on Friday July 20th at the Knight Chapel in Oak Ridge Cemetery where full military honors will be given by Buchanan American Legion Post 51. Memorial Contribution may be made to Lakeland Health Foundations Hospice At Home 1234 Napier Ave., St. Joseph, MI 49085. The family is being served by Swem Chapel in Buchanan, Michigan.
