Elizabeth's Obituary
Elizabeth E. Gridley, 91, formerly of Buchanan, died December 22, 2011 at West Woods of Niles. She was born August 13, 1920 in Lake Township, Michigan to Alex and Katherine (Dinges) Albrecht who preceded her in death. On May 20, 1939 in Glendora, Michigan Elizabeth married Leo C. Gridley who preceded her in death on July 3, 1973. A daughter, Diana K. Smith, also preceded her in death in 2010.Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (David) Burgoyne of Buchanan and a son, Richard (Margaret) Gridley of Louisville, Kentucky along with six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Robert (Barbara) Albrecht of Buchanan; sisters Theresa Walquist of Scottsdale, Arizona, Esther (Dee) Cole and Donna Wilcox, both of Buchanan. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy Lunog, Linda Sinner, Ann Ruff and Marie Albrecht as well as her brother George Albrecht. Elizabeth and her husband Leo owned and operated the Donut Shop in Buchanan from 1958 until 1975. She also worked for the Buchanan Community Schools as a lunch supervisor and retired after numerous years as the food service manager for Brookwood Golf Course. Elizabeth enjoyed playing cards as well as playing golf in the Tuesday and Wednesday women’s golf leagues. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Buchanan where she served many years on the Altar Guild and the Kitchen Committee.A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Buchanan, Michigan. A meal will follow the service.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 212 W.
