Melvin Scroggins

Melvin Scroggins, 95, of Buchanan, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Lakeland Community Hospital Niles, Mi. Melvin was born on September 6, 1915 in Conway County, Arkansas and married Jessie Marie Bryant on October 13, 1932 in Center Ridge Arkansas. In 1947 they moved to Buchanan, Michigan where Melvin was employed at Clark Equipment Company for 28 years, retiring in 1975.Melvin was a devoted member of First Christian Church in Niles. During his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening, reading, watching professional baseball and most of all visiting with family and friends.Melvin was preceded in death by a Son Jerry and daughter in-law Jacquelyn Scroggins, his parents Robert Lee and Lizzie Bowling Scroggins. Surviving family members include his wife of 78 years, Jessie; their sons Robert (Mary) Scroggins and Don (Retha)Scroggins; daughter Phyllis (Harold) Gaul, all of Buchanan, along with 10 grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 30th at Swem Chapel, 301 W, Front St., Buchanan, MI with the funeral service following visitation at 10:30, also at Swem Chapel. Burial will follow services at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan.Memorial donations may be made to the Buchanan District Library, 117. W.
