Norma's Obituary
Norma Jean Harker, 85, of Buchanan died Monday September 12, 2011 at Lakeland Hospital Niles, Mi. She was born January 15, 1926 in Galien, Michigan to the late Clarence and Esther (Metzger) Potter. On June 28th, 1947 in Alexandria, Virginia she married Byron “BG” Harker who preceded her in death in 1993.Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Dave) Mitchell of Buchanan and Jeanne (Jim) Wing of Niles, and two sons, Randy (Carol) Harker of Tucson, Az. and Ronald (Paula) Harker of Niles.Preceding her in death are; a grandchild and seven sisters; Marjorie Gilbert, Doris Swartz, Lorna Nelson, Wanda McGawn, Joan Luther, Yvonne Krieger and Clara Liska and two brothers; Richard Potter and Laverne Potter. Norma retired in 1982 from Clark Equipment Company in Buchanan where she had worked as a secretary in the telecommunications division. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served as treasure of the Ruth Circle. Norma was also a Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed playing pinochle for the past fifty years with the same group of eight women.Visitation will be Thursday the 15th from 5-8 p.m. at Swem Chapel in Buchanan. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday the 16th 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 132 S. Oak St. in Buchanan.
