Albert's Obituary

Albert O. Wesner, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 18, at his home in Buchanan, Michigan. A celebration of his life service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, at 10:30 a.m. St. Anthony Catholic Church, 509 W. Fourth Street, Buchanan with Father Peltz officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Buchanan American Legion Post #51 providing Military Rites. Friends may visit Tuesday, November 22, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Swem Funeral Home, 301 W. Front Street, Buchanan.Albert was born on June 8, 1929, to Albert and Mary (Weinhart) Wesner in Crivitz, Wisconsin, but was raised in Buchanan most of his life. While stationed in the Army, he met the love of his life, Rosemary Scholl, at Turner’s Dance Hall in Indianapolis, Indiana, and spent 57 years together in the house they built in Buchanan Township. He was retired from Tyler Refrigeration in Niles, Michigan.Albert’s greatest pleasure was working on the family farm, raising cattle and feeding his chickens. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren raise and show animals at the Berrien County Youth Fair which he had also participated in 1945, the first year of the youth fair.Albert was actively involved in his sons’ Boy Scout Troop 41 (541) for 38 years enjoying many camping and fishing trips. His home was always open for the boy scouts to enjoy a corn roast and an annual Turkey Shoot. He was honored by the troop at their 75th anniversary in 2001.For many years, he was a member of the Buchanan American Legion Color Guard participating in military funeral services as a member of the firing squad.Along with his wife, Albert is survived by his five children – Rodney (Billinda) Wesner, Roger (Lynn) Wesner, Allen (Annette) Wesner, Susan (Stephen) Lentz, and Jane (Daniel) Mitchell; 11 grandchildren – Michael, Jason, Sarah, Allie (Wesner), Eric and Heather (Lentz); Adam, Kevin, Erica (Mitchell) and Michael and Rick Larsen; 2 great grandchildren – Jacob and Monica Larsen; his very special friend and caregiver, Myra; and his dog, Duke.Memorial contributions can be made to the Buchanan American Legion Post #51 (403 E. Front Street, Buchanan, MI 49107) or Boy Scout Troop 541 (First United Methodist, 132 S. Oak Street, Buchanan, MI 49107).
