Eular Baker, 97, former Buchanan resident, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2012 in the home of Mertis L. Morris (Baker), her daughter as well as ‘Care-Taker.’Eular previously resided with her grandson Michael Rushing of Battle Creek, prior to her illness. Eular was born Feb. 28, 1915 in Carthage, MS to the late Henry and Isadore Clayton-Harris. She married Walter Baker, who preceded her in death in 1985. Also preceding her in death were five children: Ben Reed, James, Lorraine, Mack and Virgiss Baker-Hinchman; brothers: Cheeks, Fred, Ben, Frank and Henry; and her sisters: Mary, Rose, Vera and Lula.Eular obtained her GED from Buchanan High School. She was affectionately called ‘Grandma Baker.’ She was a recipient of Numerous awards, and was also noted for her leadership in the church as well as the community. She has served as a past board member of the Buchanan Historical Society and the Buchanan Senior Citizen Center. Eular started each day with devotional bible study. She was an excellent cook, loved family and family gatherings. Her gardening included vegetables and flowers. Her years were well spent hunting, fishing and traveling. Eular found great joy in watching her grandchildren participate in sports, and to the end she remained a loyal enthusiastic sports fan.Eular is survived by daughters: Mertis L. Morris (Baker) of Battle Creek, MI and Pearl Fidel (Baker) of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and a host of loving extended family and friends.A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 1:00PM, at the New Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 112 Fulton St., Buchanan, MI, with Pastor Richard Evans officiating. Friends are encouraged to visit one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan.
