William's Obituary

William “Bill” H Shearer, 93, of Buchanan, MI, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Monday January 28, 2013. A Memorial Service will take place at 12 P.M. Friday at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St. Buchanan, with Bill’s two sons, William and Tom Shearer officiating. Visitation will occur one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Stevensville, with Military Rites by Post 51 American Legion Buchanan. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home. Those wishing to sign William’s Memory Book online may do so at www.swemchapel.com. William was born November 1, 1919, in Benton Harbor, MI to Marshall & Florence (Scott) Shearer. On November 3, 1945, he married Lucille Mary (Swikoski) in St. Joseph, MI. In 1945, William purchased his own farm, and was a farmer for 25 years. He was an avid collector of Native American artifacts, and was a member of the Wolverine State Archaeological Society. He was a member of the American Legion of Berrien Springs, and proudly served his country in WWII as a member of the Army Air Force, belonging to the Jolly Roger 90th Bomb Group. William is survived by his eight children, Kathy (Ted) Johnson, of Covert, MI; Judy Long, of Buchanan, MI; William “Bill” (Cathy) Shearer, of Puyallup, PA; Tom (Vicki) Shearer, of Holland, MI; Janet (Dan) Hampton, of Muskegon, MI; Carol (Sam) Tomlinson, of Floyd, VA; Susan (Derek) Ross, of Colorado Springs, CO; and Laura (Kenny) Ehle, of Fort Wayne, IN, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, and sister Margaret Dongvillo, of Scottville, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Lucille, of 64 years.
