Mary Leah “Miki” Armstrong, died on November 28, 2012, at Lakeland Hospital in St Joseph, MI.She was born on February 28, 1934 in Niles, MI to Vaughn O. and Mary D. (Hittle) Weaver of Buchanan, MI. She lived in Buchanan until the age of 10, when her family moved to Maple Forest Twp., Mi. Where she helped her parents run their country store and gas station. She was a member of the local 4-H club as a youth. Was a Leader for the 4-H club and taught sewing, canning, outdoor cooking, rifleman ship and cake baking and decorating. She was awarded the Betty Crocker award for cake baking and the 4-H college scholarship, she graduated from Frederic High School in 1951. She was training to be a surgical nurse. On December 12, 1952, she married Arvelle E. Armstrong in Maple Forest Twp., MI. Arvelle and “Miki” resided in Frederic for a few years and then move to Mount Pleasant, MI and Cadillac, MI. In 1958 they moved to Buchanan, MI.While living in Buchanan, “Miki” was a den mother for the local Cub Scout troop. She was also a board member and financial officer for Ram Love and Camp Manitou. “Miki” was a member of the Community of Christ and served as a Priesthood, member and financial officer for Galien Community of Christ Church. Chairman for Christmas for the Less Fortunate, “Miki” was a representative for Outreach International for the State of Michigan. She went on many trips across the United States and the Philippines with Outreach International. She worked with Children’s International Lifeline and traveled to Haiti for nine days. She also worked at many youth and church camps as a cook, class instructor and Business Manager.She will be truly missed by her husband, Arvelle E. Armstrong; her sister, Evelyn Darnell and family; her daughters and son-in-laws, Acarlla “Vickie” and Stan Sanford, Tammi L. and Kenneth Binkley; her 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vaughn and Mary Weaver; sister, Patricia Jean Cowles and Son Arvelle “Vaughn” Armstrong.Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 29th, at Swem Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Where services will be held on Friday, Nov. 30th, at 10:00 a.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to Out Reach International P.O.
