Joyce's Obituary
Joyce M. (Melton) Marsh, 69, of Buchanan died in her home on Friday, August 24, 2012, after a short illness. Joyce was born in Batesville, Arkansas on July 11, 1943, to Floyd and Bessie (Bishop) Melton. She graduated from Buchanan High School in 1961 with a great joy of learning. On June 2, 1962 in Galien, Michigan she married Fred Marsh, the love of her life. They joyfully celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Joyce retired in 2006 after many years in education and business. Her work experience included positions at Buchanan Community Schools, Aviex, Reynolds & Reynolds, and most recently Express One.Joyce was very proud of both Cindy and Brian and their spouses with whom they have chosen to share their lives. Because of her love of education, she always encouraged her children and her grandchildren to follow their dreams and has been their best advocate. Joyce celebrated the lives of her five wonderful grandchildren (Alex Gerard, Christopher Marsh, Alison Marsh, Samantha Gerard, and Jonathan Marsh). She and Fred traveled frequently throughout the United States to participate in their lives and honor their many academic, cultural, and athletic accomplishments. It was a thrill for her to speak of her grandchildren’s educational experiences, career goals, and life experiences. Joyce loved her family and friends. Her four siblings and their spouses have always been sources of love and joy to her, along with their extended families. Her siblings are Clarence (Louise) Melton of Cumming, Georgia; Mildred (Robert) Brackett of Shelbyville, Missouri; Jerry (Peggy) Melton of Cumming, Georgia; and Wanda DiCicco of Rome, Georgia. Joyce considered Fred’s family as her own and loved them deeply. She always had a ready smile. Joyce’s friendship made people feel important and loved. Joyce’s favorite activities included reading, puzzles, and photography. She and Fred enjoyed their many travels with family and friends. She enjoyed her neighbors and considered them family. She was very active in her church and was a quiet advocate of her Christian beliefs; volunteering in many capacities as a dedicated member of her congregation. Her quiet grace blessed many lives. The family will greet friends at Swem Chapel-Starks Family Funeral Homes, 301 W. Front St. in Buchanan on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
