Robert M. Bachman

Robert M. Bachman, age 86, of Buchanan died Sunday August 19th at Lakeland Medical Center in Niles. Robert was born October 10, 1925 in Buchanan to the late Charles & Georgia Beistle Bachman. On May 13, 1945 he married Dorothy Richter in St. Joseph, Michigan; she preceded him in death on January 6, 1992. He is survived by two daughters, Abby (Gene) Holstein of Portage, Indiana and Jan Watson of Buchanan; two sons, Phil Bachman of Buchanan and Glenn (Gayle) Bachman of Whitmore Lake, MI; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Charlene McLain of Niles. A grandchild, two sisters, Marion Swank and Mildred Matix, and two brothers, Richard and Joseph Bachman, preceded him in death. Bob was a lifetime resident of Buchanan graduating from Buchanan High School where he played many sports. After graduating from high school he attended the University of Illinois where he a played football. His hobbies included raising roses, working in his flower beds and tinkering with his M.G. car. Bob was a member of the Friends of Oak Ridge Cemetery. He retired from Cole & Associates in South Bend where he worked as a civil engineer. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, August 22nd at 12:00 noon at Swem Chapel in Buchanan. Friends may call two hours prior to the service.
