Lila's Obituary

Lila Louise Sullivan, nee Skinner, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2013, after a brief illness. She was born December 31, 1918 in Shelburne, Indiana to David L. Skinner and Gertrude Pearl (Owens) Skinner, and was the third eldest of nine children.In 1937, Lila moved to Buchanan, Michigan where she was eventually joined by her six sisters, two brothers and father. She and her sisters owned and operated “The Buchanan Grill,” which was a hub of activity especially during the World War II years.On February 17, 1952 she married William T. Sullivan, who preceded her in death on December 19, 2000. She is survived by her two children, Kimberly Sullivan (James) Scarpone, and Timothy Quinn (Michele) Sullivan, and her three grandsons, Creighton H. Scarpone, Brendan T. Scarpone and William Q. Sullivan. Also surviving are four of her six sisters, Mrs. Gordon (Jean) Schneider of Buchanan, Mrs. Howard (Emma Lee) Huggett of Charlotte, NC, Mrs. John (Murriel) Jerue of Plantation, FL and Mrs. Michael (Mildred) Pridavka of Buchanan. Her brothers, Loren Skinner and Robert L. Skinner, and her sisters Lois M. Skinner and Mrs. Ralph (Mary) Banke preceded her in death.Lila was a member of the Church of Christ (Buchanan Christian Church), Beta Gamma Upsilon Sorority, Orchard Hills Country Club, and the Buchanan Garden Club.The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front Street, Buchanan, Michigan. A private memorial service will be held.
