Walter H. Gutenmann

Walter H. Gutenmann, 80, died Monday morning, March 25, 2013, in Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.Walter was born on March 29, 1932, in Queens, New York to Alexander and Hildegarde (Rhorman) Gutenmann. On April 2, 1961, Walter married Marybelle Remsburg in Frederick, Maryland.He is survived by Marybelle, three children and five grandchildren: Wayne (Laura) Gutenmann parents of Joshua and Sarah; David (Lorraine) Gutenmann parents of Kristian and Kianna; and Tia (Christopher) Lee parents of Brighton. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alfred.Walter graduated from SUNY Farmingdale and Cornell University (Class of 1959). He and Marybelle made a home in Brooktondale, NY and Walter worked at Cornell as a research chemist for over forty years. Walter was an avid vegetable gardener, fruit grower, beekeeper and woodsman. For sport, he enjoyed ping pong, volleyball and horseshoes. In retirement, he took to mastering Su Doku puzzles.Per his request, Walter was an organ donor. A private family service will be held at a later date.
