Melton's Obituary

Melton Le Roy Mangrum, Sr., age 89, of Niles, formerly of Buchanan, died Wednesday, May 8th at Lakeland Long Term Care Center, Berrien Center, Mi. Melton was born March 13, 1924 in Caraway, AR on October 21, 1964, in Buchanan. He married Willow Dean Bryant, who survives; along with a son, Roy (Mary Jo) Mangrum of Dacula, GA; stepson, Michael Nielson of Elkhart, IN; stepdaughters, Edna (Denny) Brown of Niles, MI, Linda (Ray) Hoover of Elkhart, IN, Rita (Ted) Owens of Jasper, GA. A daughter, Lori Millers, preceded him in death in 2004 and a stepson, Nathan Nielson also preceded him in death. Other survivors include a sister, Jean Barton of Bowling Green, Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Melton retired from Clark Equipment Company after working for them thirty five years where he had held the position of supervisor. He was a long time member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Buchanan. Services will be Monday, May 13th at 10 O’clock at Swem Chapel in Buchanan, with Pastor Raymond Bond and Pastor Charles Johnston officiating. A visitation will be Sunday, May12th from 4-8 p.m. also at Swem chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to First Missionary Baptist Church, 925 Chippewa St. Buchanan, Michigan 49107.
