He was born in Forest Park, graduated from Proviso East High School in 1956, and went on to attend the Chicago Journeyman Plumbers local 130 trade school, from 1956-1960. After graduation, he joined the US Navy Mobile Construction Battalion (MCB) Unit 6 from 1960-1964 and successfully completed tours in Greece and Puerto Rico.

He was an outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting with his faithful companions Max and Toby. Over the years, all his children experienced memorable moments in duck and goose blinds with him.
He served on various boards and committees in Forest Park that included; being voting Precinct Captain for Freddie Rose, Forest Park School Board member for 9 years and President for one term, Forest Park Plumbing Inspector, Forest Park Kiwanis Club member, and Director of Public Works.
