Mary's Obituary
Mary Kenton, age 95, of Buchanan, died Friday, November 1, 2013 at West Woods of Niles. Mary was born August 21, 1918 in Charlevoix, Michigan to the late Frank & Bessie (Tichava) Nekvasil. On October 17, 1934 in Buchanan, she married Thomas Kenton, who preceded her in death in 1983. Survivors include two daughters: Linda (Rex) Canfield of Buchanan, and Mary Jayne Payne of Niles, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A son, Thomas Kenton, preceded her in death, along with four sisters and five brothers.
Mary was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Buchanan. Mary loved her garden; she had a garden planted this spring. She loved her flowers inside and out and took great pains to care for them. Everyone knew how much she loved her butterflies. Someone was always giving her pins and necklaces to wear, or butterflies for her garden.
Another hobby which was a passion with her, was making quilts. All the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even her two great, great grandchildren had quilts made by her. She even managed to give many nieces and nephews these gifts of quilts. Mary was the life of the party. When she was around there was always lots of laughs. She will be missed.
Her family wants to thank the nursing staff at West Woods of Niles Nursing Home for their love and care
Services celebrating her life will be at Swem Chapel Tuesday, November 5th at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Charles Johnston officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-7 p.m. also at Swem Chapel. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Missionary Baptist Church, 725 Chippewa St., Buchanan, Michigan 49107
