Emily Jo Holt

Emily Jo Holt, 85, of Buchanan, Michigan, died Monday, March 17, 2014 at Hamilton Grove Nursing Home, New Carlisle, IN. Emily was born August 6, 1928 in Charlotte, Arkansas, the daughter of Silas and Enid (Bradley) Young.  After graduation from Charlotte High School in Arkansas, she married Aubrey C. Holt on May 5, 1946 and came with her husband to Galien, Michigan to start a new life.  Emily retired from Electro Voice, Buchanan, Michigan after 30 years of service and she was one of the original members of the Portage Road General Baptist Church.  Emily will be remembered for her support of her brothers and sisters when they relocated to Michigan.  She was also a great influence for her children and grand children and instilled into others the values she learned from her mother. Emily was an avid reader, a sewer of many quilts, a loving wife and caring mother. Emily is survived by her husband Aubrey; children Betty (Ed) Hoag, Tim (Marie) Holt, and Katie (Jim) Westveer, all of Galien, Michigan; grandchildren Corinna (Jay) Stark, Scott (Dawn) Hoag, Chris Holt, JR Westveer, Tony (Jayme) Holt, and Kim (Mitch) Thibodeau; great grandchildren Eddie, Joey, Carmen, Aaden, Balin, Rylan, Emily, Brayden, Logan and Evan; sisters Carrol (Con) Maslowski of Parkville, Missouri, Doris (Ernie) Yates of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; and her brother Steve (Brigitte) Young of Buchanan, Michigan. Emily was also Grandmother to Cheryl (Jim) Ross and Christy (Jason) Gudenkauf; and Great Grandmother to Dominic, Anthony, Vincent, Charlie, Allison and Carly Emily was preceded in death by her brothers; Rex, Bobby, Pete, Buck and Doyne Guy. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday March 21, 2014 at the Portage Road General Baptist Church, Niles, Michigan with Pastor Garland Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow at Galien Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from Thursday March 20, 2014 at Swem Chapel in Buchanan  from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials on Emily’s behalf may be made to the Portage Road General Baptist Church, 1765 Portage Road, Niles, MI  49120.
