Eva's Obituary
Eva Rosella Colip, 92, of Buchanan, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the Merlin and Carolyn Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville. She was born in Lafayette, Indiana, on January 3, 1922 to the late John B. and Margaret (O’Brien) Scheetz. She was married Nov. 27, 1947 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kewanee, Indiana to Richard F. Colip who preceded her in death in 1989.
Eva is survived by her children: John (Dawn) Colip of Buchanan, Jacqueline (Thomas) Gill of Granger, and Janet (Kirk) Dehring of Buchanan; seven grandchildren and one step grandchild: Nick (Penny) Capron, Lindsay (Dennis) Williams, Andrew (Shelly) Colip, Brandon, Lauren and Kelsey Gill, Samantha and Matthew Dehring; two step great-grandchildren, Thomas & Jameson Pleasant; and twenty nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one sister, Monica White of Logansport, Indiana. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Costello; four brothers, John, Leo, Joseph and Paul; and one nephew.
Eva was a graduate of the South Bend Business College and worked as a secretary until her marriage to Richard. Once her children were born Eva became a full time mother. After that her life always revolved around her family. Later she worked in food preparation for Buchanan Community Schools before retiring. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Buchanan, where for many years she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Eva was an avid supporter of the University of Notre Dame and watched the games even the week before her death. She was also a fan of the Chicago Cubs and watched as many games as she could. She touched many lives with her kindness and thoughtfulness.
Visitation will be held at the Swem Funeral Home from 4-8 pm Wednesday, September 24, where the rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Thursday, September 25, at 10:30 a.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice House, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085, Saint Anthony Catholic Church, 509 W 4th St. Buchanan, MI 49107 or Saint Joseph County Right to Life, 2004 Ironwood Circle, Suite 130, South Bend, IN 46635.
