Betty Walkden

Betty Walkden, 87, of Buchanan died May 15, 2015 at LakelandMedicalCenter, Niles.  She was born September 28, 1927 in South   Bend, Indiana to the late Russell and Opel Strahle Handley.  On December 12, 1948, at the Buchanan Church of Christ, she married Chester Walkden who survives along with a daughter, Shirley (David) Knox of Buchanan, two sons James of Niles and William of Buchanan, five sisters: Pat (Richard) Taylor of Mishawaka and Ruth (Marvin) Yocum of Mishawaka, Linda Colson of Marion, Michigan, Doris Worthy of North Carolina and Ella (Chuck) Smorse of Arizona.  A sister, Helen Taylor, preceded her in death.  Other survivors include two brothers: Elmer (Aileen) Handley of Buchanan and Robert (Carol) Handley of Granger, Indiana, grandchildren: David (Amanda) Knox, Jr., Jason (Kerry) Knox, Jessica (Craig) Monsma, Aleisha (JR) Rauch, Andy Walkden, Billy Walkden and Allyssa Walkden, eleven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Betty was a member of the Buchanan Christian Church where she had worked as a secretary and treasurer.  She owned and operated Betty’s Ceramics and enjoyed crocheting and doing ceramics. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 21st at 11:00 A.M. at Buchanan Christian Church with Pastor Nate Babcock officiating.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.  Burial will take place at a later date in Oak   Ridge Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Buchanan Christian Church, 112 W. 3rd   St., Buchanan, MI  49107.
