Wendelyn's Obituary
A celebration of the life for Wendelyn Sue Anderson who died April 17th will begin with a graveside service on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Oak Ridge Cemetery at 11:00 am, followed by a reception and sharing at First United Methodist Church, 130 S. Oak Street, Buchanan, Michigan.
A Michigan native, Wendelyn graduated from Buchanan High School, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University. Wendy spent her entire career teaching in the East China Schools, St. Clair County, where she retired in 2003 after 30 years. She received awards for innovative teaching, and loved bringing joy to the classroom.
She was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Buchanan under Rev. Claude Satterlee.
She had a passion for the arts. She was involved with the Dance Studio in Marine City and danced in the Nutcracker for many years as well as in studio recitals. Many in Buchanan will remember her cheerleading, baton twirling and her time as Drum Major of the Buchanan High School Marching Band. She played flute and oboe and enjoyed singing. One of the highlights of her university choral experience was singing with Eugene Ormandy in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. She also painted, and left us some art.
Wendy was happiest when she was involved with people. She was a member of the Marine City Civic Women’s Club and Life Christian Church. An active and concerned citizen, she worked to register voters and she advocated for causes and candidates. She loved to travel and enjoyed Mardi Gras.
Wendy is survived by her sister, Andrea Anderson. She will be missed by family, close friends and her students.
