Richard Joseph Dougherty

Richard Joseph Dougherty of Niles, Michigan, died Friday, June 5, 2015 at MemorialHospital in South   Bend, Indiana. Richard was born on October 17, 1926 in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota to parents James and Mary “Mae” (Lamb) Dougherty. He spent most of his childhood in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On June 10, 1950, Richard married Joyce Thompson in Brookings, South   Dakota. Joyce and their youngest child Michael died on November 27, 1984. On May 3, 1986, in South   Bend, Richard married Dixie Frost Artus. Richard is survived by his wife Dixie, children Shawne (Stephen) Greenleaf of Flower Mound, Texas; James (Maurine) Dougherty of Farmington Hills; Mary (Mark) Nixon of Buchanan; Sarah (Jeff) Bailey of Niles; Chuck (Judy) Dougherty of Stillwater, Minnesota; Rev. John Dougherty,CSC of Portland, Oregon; Patrick (Aya) Dougherty of Akita, Japan; John (Maria) Artus of Wichita, Kansas; and Sandy Artus Stern of Niles; and his eighteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers, Charles Dougherty of Sarasota, Florida and Br. Fulgence Dougherty, CSC of Notre Dame, Indiana. In addition to his parents, his wife Joyce, and his son Michael; Richard was predeceased by sons, Richard Artus and infant son Richard F. Dougherty. Visitation will be held at Starks Funeral Home Swem Chapel, Buchanan, Michigan, on Tuesday June 9, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend. Interment will be held at a later date in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Niles, Michigan.
