Joseph Grant Sears

Joseph Grant Sears, 80, of Buchanan, MI, died on Monday, October 15, 2015 surrounded by his family.  Joe was born in Three Oaks, MI on May 8, 1935 to the late Joseph and Alice Sears.  On July 16, 1954 he married Rose Marie Wahlstrom, who preceded him in death in 2010. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Sears and Michael Sears, and two great-grandsons.  Surviving are three brothers and two sisters: Robert (Janice) Sears of White Cloud, MI, Jack (Marilou) Sears of Sturgis, MI, Jerry Sears of Galien, MI, Marie Dorrier of Niles, MI, and Barb Mann of Buchanan, MI.  He is also survived by four sons and a daughter: David (Lynn) Sears of Patton, PA, Steve (Kim) Sears of Buchanan, MI, Joann (Paul) Dodson of Niles, MI, Kenneth (Shelley) Sears of Muskegon, MI, and Randy (Debra) Sears of Buchanan, MI.  Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force where he led an Ambulance Division and motor pool during the Korean War. He later served aboard an ammunition supply ship and ran crash boats for the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he worked at Buchanan Steel as a Hammer Operator and then as a welder at Clark Equipment until the plant closed. Joe then worked at National Standard until his retirement. Joe was also a member of The American Legion, Post 51 in Buchanan, MI. He will be remembered for his love of fishing, his keen Euchre playing skills, and his eternal devotion to his sweetheart Rose. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be held at Swem Chapel on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a military funeral service at Oak Ridge Cemetery Knight Chapel in Buchanan, MI immediately following the visitation.
